There are plenty of shreds of evidence that supports the existence of democracy about 3500 years ago in the pre-Vedic period where the rulers were elected by the Janas (people) and the post of a king was not hereditary. By the late nineteenth century, democracy became prevalent across the world and people started understanding the importance of liberty and equality.

Why do we need liberty?

Liberty grant people some fundamental rights which assure them some freedom that varies from country to country. These fundamental rights limit the government from oppressing its citizens. But is it only the responsibility of the government to be liberal and support equality, what about the citizens, do we believe in liberalisation?
The answer is a clear No. There are a plethora of cases these days of mob lynching, racism, and discrimination based on religion and ethnicity. The most recent and dreadful example of this was the siege and vandalism of U.S. Capitol Hill and color racism in different parts of the world.

Why liberalisation?

Liberalisation supports pluralism i.e different schools of thought. Democracy is the majoritarian rule and the majority does have some benefits over the minority and this may sometimes lead to conflicts between the thought of different societies within the country. But if people are liberal they will value and accept others and their thoughts. The liberal country has very acute chances of conflict between its citizens. Where there is a lack of liberalization riots and conflicts are common to experience. This gives the government the chance to curb our rights and freedom. In such conditions, the government also curbs the rights of media and the press and slowly a democratic country starts heading towards mobocracy. This was seen in Germany during the regime of Hitler and is still seen in non-liberal and quasi-liberal countries.

Almost every country has strived for democracy and many were martyred for it. So it is our moral duty to protect and preserve what we get for free without any hustle.
